Dr Annear has been in practice for 20 years. He has published widely on ACL and knee surgery topics. He has presented and served as faculty for both national and international knee meetings. He remains the knee surgeon for the West Coast Eagles Football Club and the Australian Women’s Olympic Hockey Team, positions he has held for 15 years. He recently commenced appointments with the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers Womens Football teams.
Dr Annear obtained his FRACS (Orth) in 1994 having trained in Western Australia. He spent over 2 years doing subspecialty training in knee and paediatric knee including international centres in London (UK), Portland Oregan (USA) and Melbourne (Australia). He has worked at POSM since 1997.
ACL surgery: He has developed and published new techniques involving double bundle hamstring ACL reconstructions and also the combination of synthetic and hamstring grafts (HYBRID). He has an interest in remnant preservation ACL reconstructions and techniques to allow accelerated recovery.
Patello-femoral surgery: He developed a technique for MPFL stabilising surgery for dislocating patella. He has an interest in the approach to decision making for surgery options for this surgery and has published on these areas. He has a particular interest in paediatric patella dislocation.
Knee Replacements: He has a 20 year experience in Total Knee Replacements and Partial Knee Replacements. He currently uses robot technology to perform these surgeries. It is hoped these new techniques will produce better early and long term outcomes.
Proximal Hamstring Repairs: Peter has 20 years experience in this area. He has developed the surgical technique over that time and has published both scoring and rehabilitation techniques and continues research in this area.
Teaching: He maintains a public hospital appointment and continues to teach medical students and training orthopaedic surgeons. He also has international fellows who attend clinics and surgery in his private practice.
Research: Through both the public and private sector ongoing research is performed. All patients have the opportunity to be part of research studies. We are very grateful to those patients who help us with their time and support in this area.
