Dr Patten graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2018. She moved to WA to complete her Medical Internship at Royal Perth Hospital in 2019. She gained experience in various specialties, particularly Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care. She is currently undertaking her specialist training, working towards obtaining her Fellowship in the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians.
Dr Patten is a passionate sports person, having played many sports including state indoor and outdoor hockey for Tasmania. She is a strong believer that exercise is medicine and enjoys working with all members of the population to achieve their best. Dr Patten has a keen interest in non-surgical management of sport and exercise related injuries, osteoarthritis, stress fracture management, and working with female athletes.
Ione has been the WA registrar representative and Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Medicine College Registrar Representative and Board Member. She is currently the Head of Medical for Fremantle Dockers AFLW and has worked with the West Coast Fever Super Netball team, Australian Dolphins Swimming Team, and Peel Thunder WAFL. She is the 2024 recipient of the Women in SEM Leadership Scholarship.
