Dr Doug Kingwell’s focus is on gaining a thorough understanding of a patient’s orthopaedic condition and expectations before providing clear explanations of the treatment options, both surgical and non-surgical. All management decisions involve applying the best available orthopaedic evidence with an individualized approach.
Doug prides himself on employing the latest orthopaedic and rehabilitation techniques to achieve the best possible results. This is done in conjunction with allied health professionals, sports medicine specialists, and imaging colleagues. Doug actively participates in organized sports and can relate to those affected by injury, whether they are professional athletes or individuals exercising for fitness and enjoyment.
Doug was raised in Western Australia, growing up and completing secondary education in the wheatbelt town of Narrogin. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Western Australia, graduating in 2004. His internship and residency years were undertaken at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital before he completed advanced orthopaedic training in 2019. Dr Kingwell has been working solely in orthopaedics since 2008. During these years, Doug also met his wife and has three energetic boys.
Dr Kingwell completed his advanced fellowship training in reconstructive arthroscopy at the world-renowned University of British Columbia in 2020. During his fellowship, Doug was involved in a high volume of cases involving hip, knee, shoulder, and elbow arthroscopy, as well as shoulder arthroplasty. He treated national representatives in field hockey, basketball, American football, and Olympian athletes.
Cutting-edge joint preservation surgery was a focus of this fellowship, and he is eager to offer these techniques to his patients in Perth. Dr Kingwell also offers primary arthroplasty for patients with advanced arthritis.
Dr Kingwell holds a public appointment at Royal Perth Hospital, where he performs both elective and trauma surgery and is involved in training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. He operates privately at Hollywood Private Hospital, St John of God Mt Lawley, and Bethesda Hospital. Dr Kingwell is also available for consultations with private and workers' compensation patients at his West Perth rooms.
